Church of St. Francis De. Sales
Erected 2000 (ref: Catholic Diocese of Vasai)
The late Fr. Balaguer, S. J. Vicar General of Bombay at the time had the unique idea of celebrating Mass for the milkmen on the Nallasopara platform. He approached the Western Railway authorities for permission to do so at a time when the platform was virtually deserted since the frequency of the western Railway trains was low. However Mass was held in a neighboring shed.
Today there are no milkmen going to Mumbai but the migrant population to Nalla Sopara has increased a hundred fold, necessitating a place of worship. This unit has been established and is managed by the fathers of the S. Francis de Sales Congregation.
The house of the MSFS Congregation was established in Tulinj and he priests conduct their pastoral activities in their residential flat itself. The Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod have been assisting the priests in their daily functioning. The fathers have ventured to have a huge educational institution in Nilemore on the Western side of the railway station under the patronage of St. Francis de Sales. Since the population is increasing the Mass is celebrated on the ground floor of the school building that serves as a school hall as well as a community center. In 1998, the construction of the Church building was under consideration.
